Big Walk - Day 3
We finished last week’s session in the map room. There was a large, black obelisk that obviously needed to be visited this week.
One thing about Big Walk is that it gets dark at night. Really dark. So trying to find a black tower against a black sky was not as easy as anticipated.
So instead we walked around for a bit to see what we could find. We soon found a
large yellow donut-shaped building. We jumped in the top and fell a fair way
before landing in a large room with a new toytool inside it - the flare gun.
Naturally the first thing to do was shoot it inside. And then outside. And then at each other.
After a few minutes of making the map look like something out of Predator we decided to head towards the moon on a stick.
On the way we found a bright yellow pyramid. Each level was a little too high to jump on, but we soon figured out we could pick each other up and then jump to the next level. At the top we found the megaphone.
This led to the most difficult decision we’ve faced so far - should we carry the flare gun or the megaphone? We opted for the megaphone and placed the flare gun somewhere visible. Then we were back en-route to the moon (on a stick).
Eventually we made it underneath the moon. There was a strange toblerone-shaped thing with two indents for dog toys. At first I thought it was a lock, but James picked it up and we realized it was a dog toy carrier. This meant we could free up space on James’ back for our beloved flare gun.
We loaded up on equipment and headed towards a large orange structure. There were key slots as we got closer, which means the dog toy repository is nearby.
We opened the door and deposited our dog toys. We then saw that this key would activate the cable cars. Much arm waving ensued, and we started looking for other puzzle areas.
We found a small puzzle near the sea that involved pushing two switches at the same time. This would be easy with the walkie talkies, but we decided it would be funnier if one person had the megaphone and shouted a countdown. That worked first time, and we had our next dog toy.
And yes, it was funnier.
Next up was an obstacle course, which was pretty straightforward compared to some of the other puzzles. At the end we had to pass a timer to release the toy. Easy-peasy.
The next puzzle we found contained two rooms - one with a speaker and a light switch, the other with a microphone and a bulb. Both rooms had picture cards and places to put them. So the goal here was to find a way to communicate your cards to the other person
Two toys down, one to go.
On the way back to the next puzzle we found the holster, but we couldn’t figure out what it could hold at first.
The next puzzle involved going through a turn-style which removed all equipment. Once inside, it was another puzzle involving describing cards. However, this time the cards were far more abstract. It was a bit like pictionary mixed with a Rorschach test.
By now we had enough toys, so we started the journey back to the key room. We got a little lost, but on the way we found another puzzle room. Of course we had to solve it.
The outside of the building was surrounded by sculptures that match some of the symbols seen on other cards. There was a symbol board on the outside and a set of blank cards inside.
It took a while to figure out that there was a telescope inside that revealed the symbols. But this was inside a locked room, so once the solution is shown it’s impossible to check which card is which. So we had to develop a system to memorize them. Most were fairly straightforward, like putting a triangle in front of a triangular object. Some were a little more abstract - we decided a large swirl (“The Dreamcast”) should go near the door as it was the gateway to your dreams. This ended up being one of the required symbols and was the easiest to remember.
We now had more than enough dog toys, so we trudged up the hill and deposited them. Once the key was cut, we activated the cable car (with more arm waving to celebrate).
We rode the cable car and watched the sunset. And threw stuff off. And tried to throw each other off.
We did not visit the obelisk.
