Big Walk - Day 2

Big Walk - Day 2

We got distracted by the monorail. And a greenhouse. And a basketball hoop. And lasers.

We started the day in the same room as last week, but at least this time we knew where we were going. After we’d spent some time sliding down ramps and ringing bells it was time to get moving. It was a fairly quick walk to the bridge, and before long we were back where we needed to be.

James found an extra door that led to the start area, so that meant we could go straight to this place next week. Good plan.

We looked around for a bit, then saw a giant blue building on the top of a hill. We climbed the hill and found the second dog toy shrine. There were also some new things at the top: binoculars, a flare station, a fixed radio, and a walkie talkie. And a laser pointer.

After pointing at various things with the laser, we headed back to where we’d visited last week.

On the way we saw a basketball hoop with a dog toy attached. We tried to kick it into the bucket, but that was trickier than we thought. In the end I put James on my shoulders and had him dunk the orb a bunch of times.

We carried on and made it back to where we’d stashed the dog toys last week, but everything had returned to where it was originally unlocked. No big deal - we picked up the one toy, then headed to the maze to get the next one.

On the way back from the maze we saw a greenhouse. There were two switches - one on each side of the room - that needed to be pressed together. Once we pressed the buttons it locked the room and brought down a soundproof divider.

Mild panic ensued.

James figured out there was a switch on my side, and after a bit of pointing I realized what was going on. Once that was pressed it revealed a puzzle piece order that I had to convey to James. I’d point at various signs on his side, and shake my head/cheer to let him know what went where. Once the last piece was in place James pushed the button and we got the confetti (and a dog toy).

Despite the anxiety this was my favourite puzzle so far.

We deposited the toys and needed one more to unlock the key. After some more exploring I found the first backpack. We now had the power to carry two items at the same time. Game changer

We found the monorail but it wouldn’t power up. But we still had much fun beeping the horn.

The last puzzle we found was a large room full of white lightbulbs with buttons. Pressing the button would activate the light: if it was green the progress bar would fill, but a red light would lock the puzzle and require a reset. There was no way to see the colour until the button was pressed, so the trick was to remember which buttons should not be pressed.

We settled on dropping objects in front of them, which worked okay, but objects had a habit of rolling away from their marked switch.

Once we had the last toy we headed back towards the tower. James got lost on the way, so I used the laser pointer to guide him. He thought it would be funny to pretend he was cut in half by the laser and dropped his torch. Oops.

We finally got the key and used it to unlock the map room. The map is huge and there are many places to explore next week.
