Big Walk - Day 1

Big Walk - Day 1

We went for a big walk and only got distracted a million times.

We spent the first few minutes of Big Walk running around, flailing our arms, and figuring out how to interact with the environment. There were instructions on the wall, but it was more fun to just pick up various things and see what they do.

We quickly found out you can kick things - and kick them we did. You can also pick up bells and ring them. So we did that too.

It was also a chance to get used to the proximity chat, and to have fun figuring out how different textures affect the sound.

After a couple of minutes it was time to venture out into the world.

We found our first puzzle which involved reaching a high button. It dropped a red blobby thing - which we named “dog toy” - that looked important, so we carried that around.

We then found a giant paintbrush and some paints. James thought it would be funny to paint me so I looked like a bee. But once it gets dark I was almost invisible, so we went with slightly brighter colours. I painted him to look like Homer Simpson.

Much joy was had by spinning around in the dark to imitate a lighthouse.

Most of the puzzles in this area involved simple mechanics, like picking up signs and putting them in the correct place.

We walked down to the beach and found a place to deposit our dog toys. This unlocked a key, and we used that to unlock the bridge and walk to the next area. There are so many puzzle areas here it was hard to know where to start, so we just wandered around and did whatever looked interesting.

The first tricky puzzle we found involved soundproof glass - one of us had to push buttons in the correct order, but only the person behind the glass could see which order. So we had to work out a way to communicate this. We settled on pointing to the button and waving our arms as “Yes”. Jumping meant a high button, and crouching a low one. It worked pretty well.

We also solved a maze with a timer (which is a neat little ticking tomato), and caught one fired out of a cannon.

At the end we left all our stuff in a pile, ready for next week.
